Hello
I have a problem right now and its affecting my credit.
Here's the backstory...
May 2005 I bought two things online. One through eBay/Paypal and another through Paypal for Anime North. Paypal has been at the center of all of this.
June 2005: On my credit card it says easyspace.com has billed me for a platinum membership and has given me a website I know nothing about. My credit card is cancelled and no one can take money of this at all.
November 2005: I begin getting bills from easyspace.com for "my" website. The bills have no return address nor do they say how to pay. So I collect them and ignore them.
March 2006: After recieving a letter from a sister company of easyspace.com saying that I need their services and saying that I need to pay because my credit card information I'd provided isn't allowing payment I start flipping. I've called up the credit card companies and am checking my credit history through everythign I can.
My problem is that I'm not familiar with scotland....and that's where these companies are located....so this is where you Scottish people come in handy....
I want to know if this is a full address (since at least here in Canada we require a street number or something....)
Lister Pavilion,
Kelvin Campus,
West of Scotland Science Park,
Glasgow,
G20 0SP
oooh and phone number too?
+44 (0) 8707578885
I just don't want to phone this place/mail this place only to have my money wasted.

No that's a full address...the post code is more informative here than it is in the States or Canada...
As for the phone the 44 is a country code. You need to omit the 0 and dial 011 44 ...rest of number

It could be. UK postcodes are very narrow, as in somtimes one building has its own postcode if there are several residents.

The areacode is like a Freephone number, so I can't tell you if it's located in Glasgow or not.

Well I called them....or rather I called Easyspace and I was told (surprise surprise) that they couldn't do anything for me....I was told to *E-MAIL* the abuse department at this other Iomart company...what kind of fucked up company makes you *E-mail* their abuse department and *NOT* talk to an actual person? Shit where I work you can E-mail us but if you call Tech Support we'll fix it over the fucking phone!
So I did...and apparently they are supposed to *CALL* me back....well ok I can do that....and then I realised that there is a 5 freaking hour time difference....which means that my roomates are going to be really fucking pissed off if someone calls me at 4 am (9am in Scotland)....Oh and not to mention the fact that I too am not going to enjoy being woken up at 4am....
On top of that I will probably be at work when they do call since I'm working at 8:30 - 5:00 the rest of the week....which means that I get to play phone tag because I can damn well tell you that I'm not gonna get through if they give me a number to call.....I tried that other number earlier too.....All I got was a busy signal.....remedy the situation bull shit.....
The moral of the story? NEVER EVER EVER buy anything offline....or at the very least don't use freaking Paypal....

it's a good thing that you've kept a paper trail.
have you tried contacting paypal regarding their involvement in all this? i'm not exactly sure how paypal is involved. do you think easyspace got ur cc number via one of the companies that you used paypal to buy from?
i see that you are in canada. do you have some kind of government agency for consumer protection &/or international problems of this nature? if so, perhaps you should contact them.
just a thought, but perhaps you should drop the phrase "i really don't want to have to contact my attorney about this" when dealing w/ easyspace. perhaps that would get there butts in gear.
obviously, it all sounds fishy.

It's a scam.
They contact you for something you didn't buy, saying they couldn't process your payment. They then hope you give them your credit card info, so they can steal your money.
Ignore it.
Also, I don't see what Paypal has to do with the other companies contacting you.

the way i read it, they already billed her credit card once & she had it canceled because of it.
is that right, megan?

Ohh I misread a line and the rest fell into the same pattern I've seen for that scam. Apologies.

Yeah they charged my account once....and that was why I cancelled that card. I'd also had a few other charges from companies I'd never heard of....So far none of those companies have tried coming after me....I also don't have enough information to contact those other companies to see who used the card.
Paypal is the only place online that I had used that credit card. I always keep my credit card in my purse and my purse never left my side. None of my friends would ever touch my credit card nor would they do something like this to me. I've always been extremely careful with my credit card and I don't understand how it's possible to have this happen to me. I don't even leave my reciepts where someone could pick them up afterwards...mmm shredders. I've recieved all of my statements for that credit card, I recieved the first card itself...I'm at my wits end.
I contacted Phonebusters, which deals with this kind of stuff, though they've pretty much done paperwork and that was about it. They told me to check out my credit scores with the two major Canadian Credit Unions and that's about it. Oh sorry they recorded my complaint....along with the other 2000 + calls they get a day.
In fact the first time I called up they didn't even believe that I was a victim. I got some guy on the phone and he told me to make sure I *WAS* a victim of credit card fraud. I knew it from the freaking start and he wouldn't listen to me. So I found out "for sure" and called them back again and THEN they took me seriously. I ought to complain to the manager about that too....but I won't because I'm too nice and because I actually got my complaint logged. The lady who took my complaint actually sounded surprised that the first guy didn't take me seriously.
The only *OTHER* time I used my credit card online was *after* my old one was stolen and cancelled. Since the charges haven't appeared on the new one it had to have been on the old one that they were charging.
If this has been done online, they should have records, and not only would they have records IP addresses CAN be traced, especially if the need is great enough. Though I don't think they've kept records from a year ago but its good to hope (and one would think they'd keep them for a good while too, just in case).

It sorta sounds like a different scam, called Phishing. Have you ever followed a link through your email to "Paypal" ?
Because the real paypal will not send you links, it will make you visit the site on your own, to prevent that scam from being succesful. If you follow the link in your email it's to a fake website which harvests your account info or credit card info.
Could that be it?

Nope....didn't follow any links to paypal's site....
I dunno....I guess I'm just one of the lucky few who get their credit destroyed for buying stuff online.....I'd heard paypal wasn't the most secure either when I was buying the tickets/costume but I figured I had no choice in the matter since I needed to buy those tickets and I think the only other place you can get them is in Toronto and I couldn't get there ....:(
From what I can tell Easyspace and Iomart seem to be legit companies....they have stocks and everything....and somehow I doubt people would invest in a fraud company.....bah
I don't know....I could be on crack.....it could have happened that way but I can't remember exactly because it was so many months ago....
If I was to make a website though, I'd have only gone so far in before having them ask me for payment....ie. I would take a look at the process itself, but cancel out of the actual process.....but if I were to do that I wouldn't do it to the point where I gave them access to my credit card.....unless they pulled it off of another web browser that I had open.....which could be possible....
I don't know....I'm confused and pissed off and just super unhappy at the moment with them....
On the plus side it did only cost me 3 cents a minute to call Scotland but if I were to call Paypal it'll cost me 7 cents a minute cuz its in the US......and once again not in my time zone.....
Fuck I hate companies

You should use CertaPay. It's like interac on the web. I use it to pay for my online game subscription. You basically just email people some info and they can log into their online banking and have the money deposited into their account.

If I'd had the choice....
I just figured if somethign like this was going to happen I wanted them to only have access to my credit card, not my banking information which was the other option....

I'd rather they have access to my bank account. I have no credit with my bank, so they can only take what I have. Not what I'd have to pay back.

There is something of the sort....I've been told to get my credit card company to do this for me anyway, but I don't know....It's been a few days and I haven't heard from these guys and its pissing me off....
If they don't call by the end of the week (tomorrow) I'll give them a call on Monday and if they don't fucking want to hear from me I'll make one hell of a fucking stink...
Megan
P.S. I don't know if Better Business Bureau would be able to do anything....its a compnay overseas not one here in Canada....and its not necessarily the company itself that did it, it could be some random Joe or something....in which case the both of us got taken for a ride....
