View Full Version : Is FFX any good?

Yeah I know I could look at reviews, but many reviews said too many good things about FF8 to be taken seriously hehe.

Considering I've played 4-9, and think 6 is king, followed by (4, 9 - tie), then 7, and then all the ones I haven't played THEN 8... is FFX (and/or X-2) any good?

Also, on-par with these, is Xenosaga (I don't know how many Xeno* games came out since I stopped looking hehe) as good as Xenogears (the best RPG ever made) was?

I'm considering my options as to the first RPG that should grace the silver screen (and by that, I mean the giant projector in my apt hehe).

Maybe I should just shut up and play FF1 on emulator already :).

ten was nice, but not the best. if you need a good rpg to play give it a shot. it shouldn't be too expensive anymore. its sorta linear, and as long as you stay away from x-2 you should be fine.

Do not bother with FFX. It is so boring. I rent a game to play and enjoy... and my idea of which is not watching 10 minutes of badly scripted CGI followed by wandering around for another 10 minutes followed by more badly scripted CGI followed by a so-so boss fight with more badly scripted CGI before and during the fight then followed by more badly scripted CGI... I think you see where I'm going.

It is more a long drawn out movie with a dull story than an RPG. I'd say it's one to skip. Some good RPGs I do recommend to check out are Fable on the XBox and Tales of Symphonia on the Gamecube.

Yeah i didn't enjoy it. No world map to explore, poor story, absolutely terrible voice acting.
VII and IX are where it's at for me, i love all the crazy little creatures in IX, why they feel the need to make everything all realistic and stuff every other game is beyond me.

Oh that's right, I almost forgot there's voice acting in X, thanks for reminding me... ugh! They pulled it off for XG, but damn, the thought of not being able to pick what they're supposed to sound like would piss me off :).

And there's no world map? Is it like being in Midgar for the whole game or something?

No you have different locations, but you just get an airship and a list of places to go, pick from the list and you automatically appear there. It's not like ine the PSone games where you could wander about.

Oh... heh... that's not okay . Is the battle system back to the classical style (kinda like 9 was) or is it all crappy like 8?

The battle system might be one of the few saving graces of the game. All your skill increases and magic are gained going around a sphere map which gives you some control over how your characters develop. The fights themselves are smoother. There's no battle timer so someone is doing something at any given time. The part I like is that you can control any Aeons you summon. Their stats can be built up through items.

Yeah the fighting and sphere system are very good, you can see clearly what you're upgrading and make people powerful atackers or healers and so on. Plus you can swap any characters during the battle. If one dies, another comes to replace them.

I really enjoyed 10. it wasn't my favorite in the series, but then again I am always torn between 4 and 6 for that title! I liked it a lot though, I have played some absolutely awful games with voice acting and anyone that thinks this game was bad is lucky to have no had to suffer through those! but yes, I really liked this game and it's a definate buy at only 20 bucks

Sweet! I'll wait for it to go down a little more (when say ps3 comes out)... but who knows. Nobody said they need to be played in order. Maybe I'll play FF4 again, it's been a long time, and that one's amazing :).

AHH!!! I just got it for Gameboy advance, which means that I now own it for every possible format out there (super nintendo, playstation, and now GBA!) and when I say every possible format, I just mean that it has been released in, DUH! haha, but yes, there is a new intro to the game, and that's all I had time to play, because I actually finally decided that it was time I beat final fantasy 8 *dodges many lamps that are thrown his way* haha, seriously though, I have played it up to the final boss before, but never actually gone through with the battle, so here I am, playing it all over again. I am about 56 hours in, did all the subquests and stuff and I'm just chillin at Ultimecia's castle ready to WHOMP her booty!

....but yes, FFX and 4= GOOOOOD! I would pick 4 to win in a fight though, that's just me!
