First and foremost, hope everyone had a merry and safe holiday.
Secondly, i have a question.
I'm looking to buy one of those new Pontiac Solstice that just came out within the next few months, but i am not sure about how much insurance would cost. I currently own a 97 Dodge Stratus, and since it's all paid off, i only have liability on it. Getting the new car would mean that, since most will be financed, i have to get full coverage. In addition, i hear insurance for a sports car, which this pontiac falls under, is more expensive. Is this true?, and if so, by a lot?
I have a good history, i havent had a ticket or accident in almost 4yrs. I'm 26 and also heard when you turn 27 they lower the price on your insurance. While this car is sporty, it's a tiny, 4cylinder car. Pretty much a GM version of the Miata. I'm just worried that getting a new car like this would make my insurance become unaffordable.
Thanks in advance

The insurance would be pretty high. I've never had a car myself, but I know that certain things shoot the price up. Sports cars, your age, your experience, being male makes the insurance higher, and honestly... even the COLOUR of the car can change the insurance quote. I've heard that a red sports car's insurance can cost more than a more sober colour.

i'm 24, & have a 01 mustang v-6 coupe. i have triple a & pay about $110/month. i have no accidents, claims, or tickets. part of figuring your insurance premium is your credit score & i happen to have good credit. i also qualify for a discount because of the credit union i belong to.
you can get online quotes from many major insurance companies...check it out. you can also call local agents...u don't need to own the car b4 you check prices.
i caution you with progressive & geico...i had progressive for a year. they'll offer you a low, low rate to get you in the door, but then it goes up.

Thanks for the replies, guys.
I remember back when i was about 18-19 and i was looking to buy a car. A new Jetta back in 99 would have cost me almost 4,000 a year in insurance. I ended up buying the 97 Dodge and i still paid 3,200 or so a year. It was nuts.
Now i go with my parents' company (my dad constantly looks for cheaper insurnances for his business, home, car, etc, so they switch a lot) and i pay i wanna say around 80 a month for my car.
$110 is reasonable for that kind of car. If that's the range i'm going to pay, that's fine. I was scared it would be like $300/month or somethnig ridiculous.

I got a car from my brother, $250, needs a couple things done, less than $1000 work, by far. It's a "Sport Edition" and the insurance is suitably quadrupled. I don't know whether I should just buy a different and more expensive car, to save on insurance...

Hmm, that thing about the colour sounds like an urban legend to me, but I guess you never know.
Yellow and red cars are safer though, since they're easier to spot. :)

heh... I always wanted a red car for two reasons: it's what my mom has driven forever, so I'm just used to it, and it's so much fucking easier to find in a large parking lot!

I'm not sure about the insurance cost on a solstice, but I can kind of give ya a region to look at. I bought a Cobalt SS this summer. I was carrying full coverage on my S-10, paying $586 per 6 months with a $1,000 deductable so basically $97 and change a month. Well, full coverage on my Cobalt, with a $1000 deductable is running $748.68 per 6 months, or $124.78 a month, so yeah, a $30 increase going from the insurance dubbed "pickup truck" to the "sports car" even though my S-10 was and is way faster. Still got my S-10, carrying just liability on it, spending a whopping $27 a month on it.
And side note, at the age of 25 males insurance in the US goes down. 25 yup yup yup, from 24 to 25, my insurance dropped to almost half of what it was before.

See, thats what i thought. I asked my parents and they said it was changed til the guy turns 27. Wonder which really is.
I think unless its something ridiculous like 300/mth i'll still get it. I figure my 20's are going away pretty darn fast so my window to FULLY enjoy a sports car (first time ive ever had anything other than a sedan) is getting smaller by the day. Once i get married and stuff, it's a different ball game.

the drop at age 25 isn't just for guys. i'm not sure if insurance compnaies can "discriminate" against guys and gals anymore.
i turn 25 this july & i CAN'T WAIT!

I purchased a red pontiac pursuit about 6 months ago and when i went to my insurance company they took the color into consideration as well....but i also noticed that red cars seem to targets for horrible drivers!!

I have found that if you shop around toy can find some incredible differences in what different companies charge.
Get out the Yellow Pages and start calling.
