I got my christmas present tonight.. two heart necklaces. Yes, two. My boyfriend (silly boy) couldn't decide which one I would like the best.. so he bought both. Now that he's seen that I like them both, he refuses to take one of them back.
Here they are: http://www.pbase.com/limecreek/image/53840919/original I love them! :) I've never had any nice things like this before, so it was a real treat.
Anyway.. I know for sure that the one on the left is 10K gold and the one on the right is 14K. He, being a guy, didn't really ask any details as to what the stone accents (if it even is a stone--I can't tell) are made of.
I'd like to know more details about them for a few reasons. One being that him and I had a budget of 100 dollars, which he admits to going over.. but will not tell me how much or where he got the necklaces--no details at all. If I find that they were way way over the budget, I am going to try to get him to take one of the necklaces back. The other reasons are to know how to care for them and well... just because I'm curious as to what they're made of.
My mom suggested that they might be "diamond dusted" ..whatever that means. Does that mean diamond accented? when looking directly at the necklaces (hard to tell in the pics) I can't see an actual stone. What I see is what appears to be white gold (or something similar) with some unusual amount of sparkle to it.. heh.
I searched online at the major department stores and jewelry stores in my area, but I didn't find those exact ones.
Soo.. any info for a curious girl is appreciated.

*mumbles and grumbles* I can't be of much help since my ex never bought me jewlery and still wont, even though I am one of his best friends......
.....So my mom bought me some for xmas :D I have a pink sapphire set coming! Anyway, I have no idea what diamond dusted means, but I think to get something like this looked at you would have to take them to a jewler and have them analyze it. They have all those terms for diamond cuts and shapes and types that I don't have a clue about. They look amazing to me though!

The one on the left looks like diamond chips (couldn't get big pic to work had to work from small pic) where you won't see a 'proper' stone as it were.
I used to work in a jewellers
Just pic the one you like most and make him take the other back.

Hmm.. for some reason the largest picture (which is the link I have posted) isn't working. You can click "medium" Or any other size that is on there below the pic, and it will work.
Anyway, thank for the replies! I didn't really expect a whole lot of people to know anything about it.. but thanks for those who did reply. :)

I know nothing about jewelery, because I don't buy people shiny things.

Because I'd rather spend my money on either...
A) Something useful
B) Something fun
Shiny things aren't fun. They're not entertaining, or even all that pretty.

They most certainly do look like chips.
Granted, they could be "diamonique" or whatever they call it (really lab created or CZ).
Even though you like them both, look at which one you prefer as far as looks and versatility with your wardrobe and other jewelry. You'll get most use out of that one.

lab created
Just a note, lab created diamonds are 100% real diamond. You will not be able to tell the difference.

i'm not sure but perhaps "diamond dusted" is referring to the same thing as "diamond cut gold." I bought my mom a set of 3 interlocking white gold rings for mothers day last year, and she thought they had diamond chips in them because thats what it appears to be, but in reality its just gold that has been cut in a way as to appear diamond-esque..those might be diamond chips, its difficult to tell really, but its certainly not much karat-wise..either way, it looks gorgeous and thats whats more important! if you're really curious, when youre certain which/if youre keeping them, take them to be appraised, they'll tell you whether theyre lab created or natural, exactly what its worth, etc, and at least when i had ring appraised recently, it was extremely cheap, and now i know that all my stones are genuine! definately worth it :)

So wait, it's not how nice something looks, but how much of his wallet he wastes on it that counts?

Sort of. But not how you're probably thinking of it. I didn't want him to spend a lot of money. So, if I found out how much they cost.. and it was too much (he's supposed to be SAVING money so he can move) I'd try to make him take one of them back.
But I've given that up all together. I mentioned it to him a few times and he got upset, saying that he wanted me to have both and he asked me to not ask him to take one of them back again. So.. that is that.
So, yeah. I was looking at them more closely and I think that they're gold cut to look like diamonds. It really does work, they look a LOT like actual diamonds.
