My sister just mentioned this to me, and I've sort have been in musical seclusion as of late while working on an album with my band (I tend to never listen to outside music when writing and recording so as to not rip off any ideas that are not my own) ...so yeah, she said that she heard they broke up, any truth to that? I checked their official site, but there was no word from there, so yeah, probably bullshit then, haha!

I haven't heard anything about it.

Plus, their new album just came out, and they're just starting to get popular. Do you really think they'd break up now?

I doubt it. Although Fall Out Boy ain't my thing, I got sick of Grand Theft Autumn. Songs like those automatically appeal to high school girls because they're all nice and such...

They'll break up after they hit their peak and start using heavy drugs.

Not now.

I'm a huge fan and as far as I know, they HAVE NOT broken up. They just now hit it big so I'd be surprised if they threw that all away. Yes, people still listen to them. I love them, so there lol

I can only wish that the thread title will come true.

I agree... I'm tired of hearing Suger, We're Goin Down all the friggin time... Not to mention it's generic. I know people who are really into the MArs Volta, and their friends told them "oh, if you like teh MArs Volta, you'll like Fall Out Boy."

The most ridiculous load of crap ever, people who listen to stuff like the Mars Volta are rarely into generic emo. Seriously. Although I must say I really hate the other new bands that arose... Trapt and company.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Fall Out Boy. They do what they do pretty well.
(and for the record, I can't stand the Mars Volta, and the two bands couldn't be more different)

Besides, Fall Out Boy has the best Christmas song this season:
Fall Out Boy - Yule Shoot Your Eye Out

It's worth your time. :)

I also am not too big of a fan of the mars volta, they're trying WAY to hard.

There's talent there if only they'd use it for good instead of evil.

I like The Mars Volta and Fallout Boy, of course I appreciate music across a wide spectrem where as most people confine themselves to only one genre.

lol

After just listening to some fallout boy (i've never heard them before), all I can say is 'wow'

If you want that type of music, go download some Sunny Day Real Estate, they did that like 10 years ago, and about 100 times better. That's pure crap.

LR, you can't really say that about me, I listen to pretty much every "genre" available, even though i've kind of lost track of what's what these days.

Alright, I've just listened to some more of these people, and all I have to say is dear god.

Lone Raider, I beg you, I have far too much respect for you to have you waste your ears on that music. DEAR LORD MAN!

I'm into all the genres cept country and gangsta rap. Although it's friggin hard to find good rap nowadays because all I'm finding is 50 cent and all the shit that the 50 cent lovers listen to.

I can't stand Fall Out Boy. It's generic to me.

LOL, the real musical enemy was all that pop Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears crap we suffered through in the late 90's early 2000's. And rocks only answer to that awful scene were horrendous rap rock groups like Limp Bizkit! It was no doubt the most awful music era ever, and it occured while I was in high school, so every teenage girl was obsessed with it and listening to it EVERY DAY.

All of that above stuff is the worst kind of music on earth to me, after we defeated that garbage, most bands that play their own instruments (well) and write their own songs sound better to me. Of course I still can't stand Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd types, but I like the occassional pop punk group who can write a good song with good lyrics like Brand New. Nothing I listen to now however, has been as good as Nirvana, STP, Soundgarden or Alice in Chains, bands from what I consider the best era of music ever.

I'm just saying these punk pop bands are no better or worse than the britneys of the world, you just happen to enjoy that particular genre of music.

And while I'm a major fan of alt rock from the early 90s I have to disagree that that is the best EVER. And on top of it I was never a big fan of alice in chains either. People love them and I really like only a few select songs.

I'm the same, I never really got into alice in chains. Although I won't say they suck... just Fall Out Boy really takes the cake... to see the other cakes.

I'm just saying these punk pop bands are no better or worse than the britneys of the world, you just happen to enjoy that particular genre of music.

I think that you can say they are qualitatively "better" than, as you call them, "the Britneys of the world," for a number of reasons (none of which have to do with their music being any good, mind you):

1. They write their own songs and play their own instruments.
That, in and of itself, should count for something. Maybe they write "bad" or "unoriginal" or "boring" or "formulaic" music, but it's still creative output.

2. They put on an interesting/decent live show.
Really, the only requirement for this is that the band/artist seem like they are putting forth genuine effort, and that you can tell that it isn't through some insane computerized process that their albums sound the way they do. The lead singer for Fall Out Boy, for example, has a very good voice. Even live, his voice still sounds more or less like that. This element of genuineness/sincerity really makes a difference as far as a band being "better" or "worse" than another band, from a purely objective standpoint.

You have to understand, yes, Fall Out Boy might be boring and repetitive. But they are still sincere about the music they are putting out, and that sincerity hits home with a lot of young people. You remember when you were in your early teens. Didn't most of you worry unnecessarily too much about girls and heartbreak and all the stuff they write about? Probably.
The lead singer of Fall Out Boy is 21. The band has been together and putting out music since they were 16. Give them a little credit; do you think you could have written a Lennon/McCartney hit at 16?
Probably not. You probably would have written a song about girls and heartbreak. Hell, you probably would have written lots of songs about that stuff. Which is what they do. Maybe in 10 years, the guys from Fall Out Boy will have a mature, inventive, complex sound. But why do they need to sound older than they are?

They're kids that write music that appeals to kids. So what? Good on them.

Like I said, I like a few Fall Out Boy songs. It's hard for me to listen to an entire album because I'm beyond that stage (mostly) in my life. But five years ago? That stuff would have been my world.

I think they write, for the most part, well-constructed pop punk. And what's wrong with that?

Nothing's wrong with that.
Well said, Bil.
Ever hear the expression that the two topics people shouldn't even bother discussing are religion and politics? I always add "music" to that category too, in the sense that these are things everyone has their own opinion about, and you're never going to change anyone's mind. Music is music; it's personal and everyone has their own tastes/preferences. And everyone thinks THEY're right.
For the record, I rather like Fall Out Boy, or at least some of their songs. I've not heard anything about their breakup, like someone else said here, they're newly popular with their new song(s)... so a breakup at this point wouldn't make a lot of sense.
It might be a sign, t hough, that they've "made it" if there are rumors circulating about them, right?

Uh... that's weird. I'm 14, so I'm living through that shit right now, and I just can't stand Fall Out Boy. I had my emo phase for a while, but I grew out of it quick because I eventually realized that this shit is repetitive and lame. I guess it's mostly those super-emo guys that listen to it.. fucked if I know.
