I just finished reading the uncut version of this book.
Amazing piece of literature.
Anyone who is interested in Sociology at all or how people think should definatly check this book out.
Anyone else a fan of the book?

My best friend loves it and wants me to read it. I've only read the first Dark Tower by Stephen King, which is the only really good one according to my friend, and I couldn't really understand it clearly. If that's the writing style, then I think it isn't for me, I like the simpler stuff like Paulo Coelho. I saw the uncut version... it's friggin huge hehehe.

the dark tower is alright, but the stand is amazing. and the first three books in the dark tower were okay, but the fourth one sucked, the fifth one was mediocre and the six has led me to give up finishing the seven book series. i made it through five and a half books and now i don't care how it ends.

I got 600 pages into the uncut version and then somehow lost the desire to finish it.
What I did read was good, though.

Stephen King, despite most people's opinions is truly a great writer.
The Stand is an excellent, excellent, excellent book. I've yet to read something by him that I truly disliked.

Does anyone here have recomendations for either King or any other books they can suggest if I liked the stand. The only other King book I have read is Pet Cemetary, which I thought was good, but I dont have the heart to see the movie and ruin it. :P

Fire Starter and The Shining are others from him that I loved. Personally, I did not like Salem at ALL ... so I didn't even bother finishing that one.

Um, what praytell are his bad books? He writes within a genre, and does it magnificently, I don't know why they're crap.
The Shining is a must, and if you can get The Green Mile in a single book, that's also good.
Let's see, Misery, The Dead Zone, Dolores Claiborn, and Bag of Bones are my higher recommendations.
That's just me though. It's great schlock, and he is a damn good writer.

to me some stand out, the green mile, the stand, some of the dark tower series. but when i get to books of his i don't like i can barely get past the first five pages...the fifth dark tower book, dreamcatcher, i couldn't read pet cemetary.
i know hes a genre writer, and the best one out there, but i just can't get into his books besides a select few...like i really can't get past the first few pages...i get bored and put them down and forget about them.
also i have a thing about reading a lot of one author, besides rowling i can't do it. i could only read two of ayn rands books, one tolkien(the hobbit)...
whatever floats your boat

I'll admit, I'm a bitchy little fanboy. I read The Stand for the first time when I was 10, and have loved his writing style ever since.
And yes, Dreamcatcher was piss poor. Pet Cemetary was complete schlock. However when having published as many novels as he has I can't imagine all of them carry quite the weight something like the stand does.

thats basically what i mean...i'm just bitter about it since i loved the stand so much and at that point was craving to find an author i could cling to and i just couldn't.

I'd have to say stewart O'nan may be my favorite author right now. Don DeLillo writes some great stuff as well.
But I'll still read Cujo in one sitting if i'm feeling bored.
