A note to girls on the pill, and NOT on the pill...
Osteoporosis is a major problem for women these days. It's important to drink milk. I know you may not like it (are you insane?) but it's still important. You need 3-4 glasses of milk a day. If you just can't stand it, or are lactose intolerant, I suggest you take two tablets of calcium supplements a day. Really, this is important. Calcium is goo dfor your skin and bones and all those other places on those milk adds. it's really NOT a sham. It's especially important for women on birth control as it can increase the risk of osteoporosis.
My teacher who about 50 and I were talking about this, and she says that her bone density scan shower her to be two points (I have no idea how much that is, but it's good) higher than the average woman her age because she always drank milk.
Please, take care of yourselves.

Now I'm suddenly very very glad I drink at least a litre of milk a day.
My mom does too... or actually, exactly one litre, just for the reason of bone density (her sister and her mother both has/had fragile bones).
It is important. Listen to Kuju.

Are you kidding me???? Milk and cheese are like the BEST foods!!! I don't drink milk that often just cause I don't have cereal a lot but I do eat a lot of milky foods (ice cream, cheese, chocolate...) I also take 2 50 MG calcium pills every night.

Umm... so just what do you drink, aside from possibly water, with your food if you seldom have milk?

I meant that in a general way...like I don't have milk that often just cause I don't like to just drink a plain glass of milk...tres boring.

I don't drink much milk but I do take 2 500mg calcium pills every morning and 1 500mg calcium pill every night. I try to get between 1500 and 2000 mg of calcium every day.

I have the same problem. I do not like basically any dairy foods. Occasionally some ice cream, but that's about it. I can take pills, but the ones I was taking for calcium were awful. They made me throw up. I now take these calcium chocolates. They are filled with a ton of calcium (I don't remember how much off the top of my head), and they taste like normal chocolate. I'd suggest something like that.

Does ice cream provide any calcium?

Does ice cream provide any calcium?
of course it does! Any dairy does.....oh and another thing....As much milk/clacium supplements/oj with calcium etc. you drink there are two other things to consider (I know cuz my mom is at very high risk) 1. smoking....smoking will take all the calcium you have stored and destroy it so its like you never drank that liter of milk at all. 2. caffine also destroys it (about half) its not as bad as smoking which destroys it all but for ever 8 oz soda you drink vs. 8 oz of milk its like you drank -4 oz milk....keep this in mind kiddies.

A few notes:
1. If you're sick and have a mucusy throat... stay OFF the milk for a day or two. It just makes it worse. drink Pop. the acid'll burn that mucus away.
2. Ice cream and cheese DO have calcium, but eating a bowl of ice cream is NOT a supplement for drinking a glass of milk. not even close.

Mushu, the chocolate calcium supplements you are referring to are called Viactiv. At least, that's the brand that my mom always has around at home. They provide a lot of calcium, and they're pretty good, they do leave a little bit of a coating and aftertaste but they are still better than swallowing those gigantic calcium tablets.
There are other, chewable supplements you can get also.
I agree that girls short change themselves on calcium. I was telling that to someone who was dieting, in a Mirror, mirror, thread...I forget who it was, but they seemed to think that you don't need a lot of calcium after you are done growing.
Big mistake! You still need quite a bit.
I don't drink a lot of milk either, but I do take in calcium every day in various forms, including supplements.
"Whole milk is for pansies"?!
I don't drink whole milk, every, bc of the amount of fat in it. Skim milk gives you the same amount of calcium with no fat at all. I realize it doesn't taste all that good. But you can get used to it.
