I'm not exactly sure, but I think it's having sex sideways, having him behind you. I think.

I always thought it was when you lay together(usually naked, but not always), with the guy behind the girl (in a spoon type shape? haha) just holding each other. I never thought that it involved sex... *shrug*

It is definitely having sex sideways. I'm not certain if it's both partners facing each other... or the male facing the female's backside...

think about it guys - SPOONING
place two spoons together, same way up. notice the spoon sits in the same place as the one under it?
that's the same. you live facing the same direction, guy behind the girl and enter from behind. you lie fitting yourself to the girl's body, chest, stomach, legs.

I didnt think spooning had to be sex though. I thought that just laying together in the spooning position also qualified as "spooning"

the o's are heads, the ^'s are butts, you would be closer though. it can refer to laying this way (quite comfortable) or to having sex in this position.

Hrm. I've never heard anyone use the word spooning and talk about sex. Sure, I don't hear the phrase often, only speaking English in school, only as lying closely sideways, one person with their back against the other.
That'd be how my boyfriend and I watch TV at his place... very little sex involved. Or, well, umm, yeah... :P

technicalities!
it's either. it's like... ya call it the "spoon" position... and you can either be just cuddling... or it's also a sex position.

That's all it is. To me though it's not the best position for having sex.

Hmm. Well my friends and I have always used that term for having sex sideways... I just realized that it could also mean cuddling sideways. Meh.

I agree that it an be either. It is a way to sit.. and whether you intend to "enter" a girl haha sitting that way or not doesn't make it any different. It's spooning. It's comfortable fitting rigt into a guys body :)

lol....I just remembered this. I have a vhs of several cartoon shorts at home. There's one about Humpty Dumpty and he's going out on a date with his gf, right before he got cracked in a million pieces. They were sitting in an egg together singing a song and the chorus was "....spooning in a spoon" I never understood that when I was younger
