So, I went to the Toronto Zoo yesterday, and I thought id share some pictures. I took 85 pictures, so it would be ridiculous for me to put all of them on here. Im just gonna put the ones that came out more clear and stuff.

I think this ones too cute. He was hiding under that bucket for so long, and he peeked out for like 2 seconds and I managed to get a picture!

We were so close to these giraffes. Probably about 10 feet away. I thought theyd duck their heads down near us but they didnt. They didnt even seem to notice the people.

This was awesome. He swam right in front of the glass, and he was moving and I was moving trying to take the picture. i thought for sure it would end up blurry but it didnt really.

Hehe all the animals were very hot. It was about 42 degrees celcius with the humidity, so a lot of them were laying down not moving or anything lol

I'm not one for seeing captive animals, but the pictures were good. I like those Macaws. :)

I love these!! You seem to have a real talent for photography... Or maybe I'm just incredibly sucky, 'cause my pictures never turn out anywhere CLOSE to as good as these... :P

I wonder if we get the whole zoo concept from the Roman Empire? You know they would capture animals, store them in cages, then let them loose in the arena to either kill or be killed. The Romans did it to display their power over nature, sort of "look how great we are, we can capture Tigers from 2,000 miles away, bring them here and have them fight for our amusement, who can stop us!!?" Now the animals don't fight, but it reminds me of man trying to display his dominance over nature, we can capture these wild beasts and store them here in little boxes for the amusement off all, arn't we strong!

Oh, and nice pictures lol, I just think way to much about every single thing I see in life, sorry about the rant.

Heh that's why you go to the tropicarium instead, where they skip all the boring mammals. It's a LONG walk/deathmarch at the zoo, just to see a few elephants/giraffes hehe.

I like that polar bear pic, makes me feel like offering it a coca cola classic :).

Or maybe we just like the animals and want to see them.

You *can* overthink things.

Just because we want to see them is not an appropriate reasons for keeping them caged.

The only real reason to do something like that is if it's an endangered species or something similar.

For the most part the animals in zoos seem to be pretty well taken care of besides the space issue. It can be depressing to see gorillas and tigers in tiny cages.

It's not all bad though.. a lot of the animals don't have to worry about predation/famine/parasites/diseases for the most part. Their chances of survival are greatly increased.

An animal roams as far as he needs in order to survive.

If they have all they need in one place, they can be content there. Barring, of course, cheetahs and such that need a lot of open space to run, but I'm sure they're happy to have their meals come to them.

The zoo really seemed to take good care of these animals. I mean, we went to see the arctic wolves, and we could even find one because their enclosure was so big. Definitely not what I had expected.

And yeah, I thought the pictures turned out pretty well. Its crazy what kind of a difference it makes having a decent camera to take pictures with too. My only problem was the glare when taking pictures through the glass.

a large enclosure doesnt compete with the freedom of the wild...
and in the zoo... where is the thrill of the hunt?
