Semisonic - closing time

That song would be brilliant for anything to do with graduation. Some of the lyrics are "closing time, every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end" ;) They didn't play it at any of my High School's graduation events but the last thing I listened to before I walked out the door to go to my ceremony was that song

It's also sort of slow and could be sad coupled with the right imagery. Listen to it, you'll like it. Well I did, but I'm also a product of the 90's alternative movement so it fits into that category lol.

Edit: Here are all the lyrics in fact

Closing time - time for you to go out, go out into the world.
Closing time - turn the lights up over every boy and every girl.
Closing time - one last call for alcohol, so finish your whiskey or beer.
Closing time - you don't have to go home but you can't stay here.
I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
Take me home...

Closing time - time for you to go back to the places you will be from.
Closing time - this room won't be open 'til your brothers or you sisters come.
So gather up your jackets, and move it to the exits - I hope you have found a

friend.
Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.

Yeah, I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
Take me home...

Closing time - time for you to go back to the places you will be from...

I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
Take me home...

Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end...

Ah good, I was beginning to feel bad that the only replies might be joke ones cause of me hehe. Still, you gotta admit it would be pretty sweet/funny to play "I'm in JAIL"

I Remember You (cover) - The Ataris

I used this song on a slideshow I did, and even though it's a love song...it gets the point across and I like it a lot. :)

That's exactly where I first heard it :). I recently ordered that DVD, too. One of the best movies you'll ever see. I think every high school student should watch it after the first couple years (so they can actually relate a bit).

I Disappear by Metallica. Sadly, not my graduation song, but I would have found it fitting.

You know what, parents of kids who are 17 or 18 now might have been young enough to have been Metallica fans back in the early 80's so that might actually work, and they might actually like it. Kids my age had parents who fought in Vietnam or were teens in the late 60's early 70's. Metallica didn't go over well with our parents needless to say, but it might go over with these younger parents.

'In My Life' by The Beatles is a lovely song, very touching. The lyrics are fitting, as well. Especially when directed towards the parents. Awww. :P

There are places I値l remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I致e loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I値l never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I値l often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I値l never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I値l often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

Okay, bear with me 'cause I don't know anything about country...but I was flipping through the channels and stopped on CMT...is that the one with the video of the girl growing up and the parents, namely the dad getting all emotional? Because I saw that when I had pneumonia and started crying...sweet lyrics. I hate country though.

Anyway...I can't really think of much that hasn't been touched on...I really like Closing Time though, it would work well!

You know what?

I know that song very well. When I graduated, my best friend and I sang the solo for that song with my vocal jazz group.

VERY good grad song.

That song about the highschool reunion they used to play on the radio still gives me nightmares.

Ooh yeah, very descriptive, I know. ^_~

I recommend ending it with the Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World medley by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. It's beginning to be overused for the purpose you're looking for but it still pulls at my heart every time I hear it.
