I've been putting on a lot of fat lately. I've put on about 10 pounds since this summer, and every bit of it has gone to my stomach. My bad eating habits are finally catching up with me. I've been trying to eat healthier, but my problem has been... I eat healthy meals... and then load up on junk whenever I see it. I'm not fat, but I don't like myeslf anymore, and it's killing me.

I have absolutley no "weight" goal that I want to reach, but I want to get rid of this fat. Since I can't seem to control what I eat when I am trying to just eat normally but more healthfully, I'm going to give the "Special K Diet" a whirl for two weeks to kind of break me into new eating habits. I figure, if I limit myself to only one "normal" meal a day plus the two meals of Special K, then I'll be less tempted to blow it all by eating junk. It's only for two weeks, so I'm not on the road to anorexia or anything... I just want to get this started off on a good foot. Hopefully after two weeks, I'll see some results and have some more inspiration to keep going.

I've also been excercising more regularly, and am planning on continuing that.

Anyway, the whole point of this post was to kind of give me another "motivator." In two weeks, I'll post how I did, and maybe some updates along the way. I'm really excited about this, and I know that if I finally begin to see some results, my eating habits are going to get a LOT better.

I was also wondering if anyone else has ever tried this, and if so, did it work at all?

What is the special K diet? Each day, you eat one meal, and two bowls of cereal? That's not NEARLY enough to keep your energy levels high, especially if you're exercising regularlily. It sounds to me like something similar to the Slim-Fast diet, which causes you to regain it all when you get off it, and teaces you very little about doing your body good :). Make sure you're doing the right thing.

kinda sounds like someone's attempt to sell more cereal......

and what they mean by a "bowl of cereal" is nonsense. When i have a bowl its about twice what they mean, which means my cereal intake is way too high for their diet.

I can't see it working. It seems like a gimmick to me.

What worked for me for weight loss was the atkin's diet. I was on it for about two months and in that time lost something around forty pounds. (I'd put on 50.) I was overweight enough that I really wasn't able to move without hurting, which made slight exercise near on impossible, so it got me down to the point where I could exercise ... and even off the diet, I've still been losing weight. I had a 37" waist before I started, 33" when I went off it, now am 29.5". :)

I know there's health risks with long-term use of the atkin's diet. I'm genetically predisposed to react well to it, though, because I have native american ancestry (a high protein and low carb diet has been beneficial for eveny native american person I've known) and I'm also hypoglycemic. (Going on the diet was worth it just to get rid of the fucking hypoglycemia! :P)

But, it's something you might consider looking into, because it does work.

There's no way I'd be even remotely satisfied eating a bowl of Special K...

I might suggest eating more protein (nuts, cheese, peanut butter, fish) to help keep your energy up if you really want to do this diet.

Drink lots of water, too.

Any diet that requires you to eat a lot of one certain food is generally unhealthy (i.e. Special K, grapefruit).

i start the special K diet tomorrow, but I've modified it to include a piece of fruit with each meal to make it more healthy. Special K was buy one get one free at Publix so it seemed worth a shot... im gonna try the Vanilla Almond Special K so Ill let you know if its any good.

I'd think you'd have to look at the nutrition facts and see what constitutes as a serving as well. Get out those measuring cups.

Keep this thread updated, for those that are starting the diet.

I don't think ketamine is good for weight loss
you might wanna try crystal meth instead

I'm on day two and I'm doing good. The cool thing about it is that you can have whatever you want as your third meal, which makes it easy. Nothing is "bad" for that third meal. As many carbs, or whatever. (Not junk food, or anything super greasy, or humongous portions I'm assuming; just a normal meal within reason.)

It is working as a good motivator, if nothing else. Yesterday I refused donuts twice, and today I was able to sucessfully say no to potato chips at lunch.

Like nicruns said, I'm eating tons of friuts and veggies also. From what their website says, you're supposed to eat fruit with the bowl of cereal, and fruits and veggies as snacks. A serving size of special K is actually a full cup, which is about as much as I eat anyway. The only real change is using and drinking skim milk, which I'm not used to, but need to get used to because it's so much healthier.

I know it's all in my head, but I feel better about myself and I'm finding it easier to make myself exercise, too. I'm so excited about this. :)

I'm a little curious about that "eat as many carbs as you want for that thrid meal" bit. I mean... you're basically eating carbs for your first TWO meals. plus some dairy and fruit. That thrid meal should be meat and veggies only really...

i only really eat one meal a day...i just snack. and i don't want to eat special K all day as a snack.

When you stop this nonsense won't the weight come back?

the Vanilla Almond is REALLY good! very yummy! and its a crispier cereal so it doesnt get soggy as fast as cornflakes (ewwwww!)

I'm glad it's going well now, but don't be surprised if it doesn't work after a while.

My suggestion is to stop this diet-thingy and continue to eat balanced meals and snack on healthy food choices (I know, it's easier said than done).

Invest in a good radio or iPod and work out every day by running, doing sit-ups, push ups, flutter kicks, pilates, etc. Take a friend with you so you can support each other.

I'm going through something similar too. I gained five pounds over the Christmas break. I realize how hard it is to just take a couple of pounds off, so please keep it up. We're all cheering for you!

Try those Special K bars(like cereal bars) for breakfast or a snack. They're pretty good, and only have 90 calories.

^^ I've tried those. They are TINY...that's why they are 90 calories. Bleh.

Asphodelle13

Yes they are tiny. So often I just eat a big bowl of cereal instead(with my multivitamin), skip lunch, and eat a decent dinner. I also eat a lot of carbs more then anything else so its not like I'm getting malnourished.

Those bars are not enough for breakfast, even for inactive people :).

My thoughts exactly.

...I also don't think they're any more healthy than rice crispy squares :)

Asphodelle13

They just make a good snack.. Especially rice krispy squares though. Which are the alltime best snack ever..*drools* Probably won't help anyone lose weight though especially if you make them yourself cuz of the butter(and I could easily eat a whole pan of them). :P

One thing that I might ask you is do you drink. If you do, you will need to cut down on that as well. After I stopped or cut down on my drinking (beer) I lost a lot of weight. Just some input for you...
