Ok, this is going to sound naive, but oh well. This guy says he wants to "hook up" with me tonight. Now does that automatically mean sex, or could it also mean getting together? If it could mean sex, should I just come out and say I'm not having sex with you? :eh:

I think that depends on the guy, so I can't really answer that for you. You'd have to ask him..

I'm pretty sure most people consider it to mean SEX.

The most common usage of the word means "Unattached, no strings sex"

So yeah.

Um... I think it depends on a few more facts personally... Like say do you know this guy, or did you just run into him at the mall or something?

I think it could mean that he just wants to know if you'd like to go out. Where I come from that's what "hook up" means. But hey, maybe I'm naive too.

Ask him. Cuz I mean I have guy friends and when they wanna hang out theyll usually say, "We should hook up tonight". And they dont mean anything sexual by it.

Like other people said, it depends on the guy. It's slang for no-strings-attached sex, but it can also mean, "Hey, let's just go do things tonight."

Ask him. Just be up-front about it.

I think it really depend on the context. I mean... if you're hanging out at the mall and he says "wanna hook up sometime?" it's not likely that he's propositioning you for sex... just wants a date.

But if you're drunk and at a party, and he says "wanna hook up?" he generally means sex.

My friends and I were just talking about this, trying to determine a solid definition for "hooking up." The virgins had one interpretation, while those of us that have had sex had a different one, lol. To me, "hooking up" can mean many things, but mainly sex. My friends who are virgins thought of "hooking up" as strictly making out/some touching. Soooo...I dunno, heh. Depends on him, how old you guys are, the circumstances. I'm willing to bet he means sex, but you'll just have to ask him what his intentions are.

Depends on the person, I suppose... in college (ok, at least at MY school) it can vary from just making out to sex. It's kind of a loose definition - if a professor says, "Sure, let's hook up after class and discuss that," I'm not going to start choking on my gum because I know he/she means, "Let's meet in my office to discuss Kruskal's algorithm," and not "Let's have monkey sex." At least I hope not.

BTW, love your Tori pic... :)

GOD I hate the term "hook up." It should be erased from common use forever. "Let's hook up tonight" could mean anything from "Let's arrange things so that we are in the same vicinity to night" to "Let's go on a date tonight" to "Let's make out tonight" to "Let's fuck tonight." And the person using said phrase never sees the need to further clarify. Maybe they do this on purpose to leave the night's agenda up in the air and open to possibilities. I don't know, but it's all stupid.

I agree with falltime :) it's so generalized..
