I was thinking today. If you had the power to bring back one dead performer, who would it be?
For me, I dont have to think about it at all. Kurt Cobain hands down. You listen to some of their albulms, Insesticide was good, Nevermind was an amazing albulm, and In Utero is one of the best albulms to come out in the 90s. Then Poof its all over.
I was listening to In Utero last night, and I was just like wow, I really wonder what more of his stuff would sound like.
Tupac would also be up there for me, but his music didnt have nearly the effect on me that Nirvana did.

See I thought about Lennon too, but I mean he had already done a TON of music for a few decades, Kurt Cobain didnt put out nearly as much stuff, so I think he still had a way to come as a muscian and songwriter.

John Bonham.
For no reason except the fact that I like Led Zeppelin, and wished they'd put out a couple more albums before he died. Granted, he died the year of my birth so it's not like I was a fan since they started. But, I just like the band a lot.
Honorable Mention: Brad Nowell
I love Sublime, and I wish that the band was still truckin' today. Holy crap, I love that band.

Syd, you were born in 1980?..That's when Bonham died. September 25th actually..forgive me if I'm wrong, but I always thought you were a tad younger.
Anyway my choices would be John Lennon, John Bonham, and Kurt Cobain..
Lennon, because The Beatles helped me so much through my adolescence and really introduced me to rock&roll..and I remember when I'd listen to Lennon's songs in his solo career..and out of the 4 Beatles he was the only one that impacted me by himself. Just listening to 'Imagine' would make me cry...or reading about his assasination. And how after yrs of departing from music to raise his son he came out with an album again(with his wife, called 'Double Fantasy'..sadly I can only bear to listen to half of it :P ). And then not long after the release of his new album, at 40 yrs old his life was stolen in the blink of an eye out on the streets of New York City. He was a musician, poet, artist, and well known peace activist. And if he had gotten the chance I'm sure he would've kept busy the rest of his life.
The second band that I worship and always will is Led Zeppelin..and I believe when Bonham died we lost the best drummer of all time. LZ wouldn't have had its unique powerful sound without him...and he was just the best. Sadly, at only 32 it was his alcoholism that killed him.
And one of the saddest demises ever was of Kurt Cobain...Sadly I wasn't into Nirvana when they were around..but I still vaguely remember hearing of his death..and the impact it had on the youth of america at the time. Now that I love their music and am intrigued by Cobain himself...its easy to wonder what could've been. Its also easy to get lost in the twisted stories and theories surrounding his death. But at least at 27, he'll always be immortalized in the history of music.
Wow...damn, now to think of it...In 1980 we lost both Bonham and Lennon. What a bad year for music.:(

Layne Staley as he was on the Dirt album. His performance on AIC's epnonymous album was depressing. Between his voice being double-tracked all the time and Jerry Cantrell singing lead on Heaven Beside You and Over Now, you could really tell that the heroin was destroying Layne.

Yes, i would have to say Kurt Cobain also, not that he is really from my time, but i cant help myself from listening to Nirvana over and over again even now.
But i would also have to bring back Jim Morrison from the Doors, and Jimmy Hendrix, but only because i like his name.
I would also give Chris Isaak ever lasting life because he is truely one of the most talented artists.

Hmmm
Kurt Cobain is an excellent choice. He was on his way to freakin greatness, I only wish he had had the time to full develop as a musician and start to explore beyond what he was already doing.
Jimi Hendrix for me. The man was a god, and man oh man it would be good to have him back and be able to listen to him play some guitar.
John Lennon I also agree with. Beatles are one of, if not THE most influential band of the past 50 years in regards to the path music has taken.

Oh, and I'm kicking myself now that I didn't mention Jim Morrison(whom I love)...the man had raw talent, was quite a poet and an intelligent soul. Too bad he lived such a hard life of sex, drugs and booze and didn't make it to see 30. Someday I would love to go to Paris just to visit his gravesite. Its hard to say if The Doors would've stayed successful for a while if Morrison had lived, but at least they'll always be known as a short but raw and sexy blaze of fire in the history of rock. Long live the Lizard King. :cool2: :rocker:

::Barf::
He should've died...before they started that band.
Just joking of course, certainly not wishing an earlier death upon someone who's already dead...erm.
I'd bring back Mr. Fahrenheit himself Freddie Mercury, what a talented guy. Of course Lennon, Marley, and Hendrix would be up there too, but..the choices are too many.
Oh! And Cass Elliot of the Mamas & the Papas...she was great. Um..and Joe Strummer of the Clash..
Yeah..that's all..for now.

Kurt Cobain would've lost his voice in another...let's say 2 years. His rough style of singing, while being good (if slightly monotonous) ruins the voice if done continuously. Well, okay, I won't say that it would've definately happened, but if he kept it up, the chances of polyps forming would've been extraordinarily high.
That's not to say I don't admire the guy a hell of a lot. From janitor to musical legend. Genius.
To answer the thread...I think I'd bring back Jimi Hendrix. The way in which that guy could solo and 'feel' the music was amazing. There'll never be another James.

Everybody here's already mentioned the typical answers, so I'll stay away from them.
If I had only one musician to bring back from the dead, it would be Elliott Smith, without hesitation.
His music touched me in a way few other things have.

Bob Marley, no question. Barry White might also be cool.
I think I'd actually feel guilty about bringing back Kurt - he never liked the celebrity life, and had no desire to be famous, and I could see the guy killing himself all over again after seeing the huge bronze statues they've made of him in his home town. (I know, I know, I'm taking this way too literally..)
