That's right folks! John Kerry is on The Daily Show tonight. Should be entertaining to say the least. I wonder if Kerry will have enough of a sense of humour to poke fun at himself, FINALLY answer the all-important question of "Was he cool in high school, and is he cool now?" and comment on his wife's ketchup-inspired suit.
discussion to follow!

I just saw it, and it was great! I think he took care of my doubts about voting for him. He's much better when he gets away from his spin doctors. He only mentioned his Vietnam service once or twice, and that was only in response to a question about it! That was a relief, I'm really tired of hearing, from either side, about his purple hearts. Lots of good stuff about sustainable energy, universal health care, and war as a last resort. Yay Kerry!

I was also impressed. He seemed less... stiff. More open, he laughed a lot more. He's a very soft-spoken person though, isn't he? Very quiet. He'll have to raise his voice when he debates with Bush. I thought he took Stewart's jibes well, and gave a good interview on real issues.
a pity I can vote for him. And Matt... aren't you Canadian buddy?

It was nice seeing Kerry on Stuart's show. I think it was a good campaign move and showed the country's youth that he isn't just concerned about America's older crowd, but that he is also interested in the younger ones.
Also, I think he figures that with the help of some angry, 18-21 year olds, he'll be able to get a better jump on Bush, vote-wise.

I only saw him as any other celebrity guest. Furthermore, most 18-25 year olds already know who they are going to vote for, most of them being Kerry. I don't think this move had any impact on his political compaign other than to have a little fun. Clearly, 99% of the people who watch The Daily Show are liberal so I only saw this as a comic relief visit.

Believe it or not Jebus there are a lot of 18-25 year olds who actually have no idea who to vote for, not do they even care about politics in anyway. It's hard to believe with the world we live in today but there are a lot of them! I guess they can't be assed to watch the news, or read the newspaper or know who's been elected and what they've done. But a lot of these people watch the daily show because its funny, and some recent studies show a lot of people in our age group use the daily show as there primary news source! They arn't neccesarily registered democrats, they probably don't even know the difference between democrats and Republicans for that matter. But now that Kerry has been on the show and Bush hasn't been and never will, I bet a lot of those kids who know nothing of politics might be swayed to vote for him.

You'd be surprised at how many people aren't even registered to vote. Secondly, most people I know don't know a thing, and could careless about anything involving politics. They don't know what liberal means or views democrats hold, etc. Also, the people who watch the Daily Show may be liberal, but that doesn't mean they're registered to vote or care about voting. By having Kerry on the show, believe it or not, many people who aren't registered to vote may go out and say, "Hey this guy is kind of cool and has a decent idea of what to do for our country, maybe I'll go out and vote."

I found a transcript for you, although some of it refers to stories covered earlier in the program, and thus doesn't make sense (turf, trees and boxes, for example). Also, it might not be as funny when you read it as when you watch it. And they have the annoying practice of writing out all their stutters. The important stuff is still there though.

hey Trev, I can almost GUARANTEE that they'll reply it in a week or two. Probably the monday after the Republican convention. they tend to do that with the big ones.
Did anyone see it last night? when they had John McCain on? (was it John McCain or someone else? I could be confusing the book I'm reading with the Daily show, they're VERY similar) Either way, it was some republican guy, and Stewart keeps saying "tell Bush to get on my show!" and the guy is like "all I can do is put a word in for you." Stewart: You're not really going to talk to Bush for me, are you? Really, we never bash people to their FACE..." (which is true, generally. he goes a LOT softer on people to their face than he does in their clips... as opposed to a lot of republican "non-fake" news shows where they eat you alive and tell you to SHUT UP!)

see? the replayed Cinton tonight. I'm certain they'll replay Kerry.
but I loved the Clinton one... Colbert gather together a diverse group of nationalities and standpoints at the democratic convention... Indian (Ghandi), Indian (Sitting Bull), Jew, Black, Gay, Lesbian, Tree-Hugger, Labour, and my personal favourite, "Arab-tino" the Arab-Latino guy. and then they all started calling each other by their "denominations" *sigh* it's always good to have a laugh after a shit-shift.

Colbert's daughter was so cute on the Kerry episode :). I bet she'll be an actress or comedian when she grows up. She's a natural, and she certainly has the genetic disposition!
