There are good sites, and there are SHITTY sites.

GEOCITIES equals SHIT. They don't allow direct linking, and neither does Tripod. Avoid these two.

If you want to post a whole bunch of pics at a time, Yahoo! Photos is nifty. You can just post a link to your album.

IF you know how to use FTP, El Burro will host for you. All you have to do is ask nicely, and agree to have sex with him.

Ask Anthropolemic to host you, as well, also requiring FTP knowledge. --J

People that DON'T require FTP knowledge: IGemini, Mearimydra.

For other purposes.... these sites will work:

http://www.domaindlx.com/ (I use this one when Burro's server goes down... ;) )
http://www.villagephotos.com/ - Decent. But you have to make sure that you turn off the 'Optomization Option' when uploading if you've already optomized the pic.
http://www.iownjoo.com/ - Also not bad. But the server goes down quite often, and you have to visit it frequently, or they'll delete your pics.

I'll host too, I've got tons of space left on my userarea....I use freepgs.com, which isnt on the list. It tends to go down frequently, but you get a shitload of space to use, and it's really brainless to upload to.

I'm also willing to provide hosting, if someone doesn't want the trouble of registration. I just started using photobucket, and it is really good, as said. Users have a 100 MB storage amount plus 2.5 GB of bandwidth per month.

Angelfire can be manipulated into allowing free tag hosting as well. Upload your image, and then rename it to a .txt file. Then use that as the image link.

Ex) Upload file mytag.gif ------> Rename to mytag.txt

now just put it in [ IMG ]http://www.angelfire.com/ny3/yoursitename/mytag.txt [ /IMG ]

I used to use Angelfire, but I didn't have to rename it. O_o I just stopped using it because there was so little bandwidth.

DeviantART is great. Free hosting of an (I think) unlimited number of pics. The only catch is that they have to have artistic merit, and they have to be categorised. You can also post non-artistic pics in your scrapbook though. And they do allow linking directly to pics, you just have to figure out the pic's address.

Freewebs is very good. It's about the only place free from those spammy banners and pop ups.

Truth.
