I lit the candles last night.
Remember, the ones you picked for me?
I watched the flames dance,
Flicker shadows onto the pale walls -
Felt their warmth, the sensuous heat.

I lit the candles last night.
Tell me, in the darkness could you feel,
The constant soft beats of my heart
While I imagined your pulse
Almost audible in the glowing orbs?

I lit the candles last night.
I hoped they would somehow
Make us close again.
Bridge the gaps of what we said,
Reminding of the days gone by.

I lit the candles last night.
Yet, their dance was not so long.
I stared at the walls wishing I knew
If you could feel my thoughts.
If you knew it was you on my mind.

I lit the candles last night,
But like questions to be shut out
I breathed your name upon each one
Hoping somehow it would reach your heart
As their smoldering smoke swirled towards heaven.

I lit the candles last night
And like the dawn turns to dusk
Let them go out again...
Until in the dark I simply whispered your name
And laid my head to sleep.

BabyDiva,

You seem so sad! But I enjoyed the poem, although check out the 3rd line...not sure if you want "wanted" to be "watched", or if you're missing a "to."

I like the repeating themes of watching the shadows on the walls and the hope of reaching your love.

I'm in awe, simple awe...I loved that entire poem! As Tortuga said, it was so very sad. The way it had such a personal voice to it, as well, just served to emphasise the feelings.

You know what's really crazy? I was gonna write a poem about candles earlier today.....

We were meant for eachother!

Well, perhaps not...
