Just did my taxes, looks like I'll owe the federal government $33. It's really just a remarkable result considering I have W-2s for me and my wife and estimated quarterlies/schedule C for poker.

I was really more curious who does their taxes now and who waits until April 11th.

I usually get mine done in mid February because it tends to take that long for me to get alll my paperwork together (mortgage, car, student loans, w2, some independent contracting work... etc). I worry that I will miss something if I do it in January so it is my policy to wait a few weeks. But I never ever wait until April (like my boyfriend does and it drives me nuts!)

I just wait until I get all my T4 slips, even though technically you don't need them to file taxes. Then I just do them when I get the chance, and that's usually around late February/early March.

Taxes here should be filed before April 30, just to note.

I do them as soon as I have all the papers (which for some reason i get everything later than everyone else). But I pay to have them done since that stuff is WAY over my head, and so it also depends when they are availible to do them.

Last year I got raped by the state. The gov gave me money and the state took all but $9. Gotta love living in the northeast

Yeah, I pretty much wait for all my slips. Which'll be confusing this time around, since I need to do taxes in both the US and Canada, (BC and Ontario) and so I'm definitely paying someone to do them this year! Especially since I should be getting a KICKASS refund from both countries. I'm talking hundreds of dollars!

I couldn't vote - I guess "pay someone" would have been closest for me... my dad does my taxes for me still :) If he didn't, I'd be paying someone to do them for sure!

I get my W-2 in mid January, and file right away. Because for some reason, the Feds give me at least a couple hundred back, and the state usually gives me 65$. Hey, it's my money and I want it NOW. I figure, if they refuse to pave my roads and fund my schools, then I deserve to get my refund back ASAP. I hate giving those assholes an interest-free loan every year. If you're not going to use my money wisely, then give it the fuck BACK so that I can waste it on an ipod or 2 external hard drives, or Super Mario Wii, or maybe even hosting a sex toy party. I'll put it to much better use than those assholes in gov't.

So yes, I file as soon as I have all the paperwork necessary. Not a day later, if I can help it.

Ooh yeah I have to get on that. I can probably take care of condo taxes early next month, and regular personal taxes sometime in mid-feb.
