I'm on ortho-tricyclen and I do a pretty good job of taking my pills every day, at the same time every day. But I heard awhile ago that the green ones are just like sugar pills, they don't add hormones or neutralize anything, they're just there to make sure you stay on schedule. So, I was wondering if I could stop taking them? I mean, taking the last dark blue one, waiting a week, and then opening another pack. It's not absolutely necessary, I was just wonderin.

I don't think I ever took the green pills, I just waited a week and then started a new pack. You don't HAVE to, they're just a reminder so you don't forget to take it when you do start a new pack.

Yeah thats what I did when I was on them. I think I took the Green pills maybe twice, then I just skipped a week and started the new month at its due time.

The Green pills yes they're just there to make sure you stay on schedule. so if you have the tendancy to forget then its probably a good idea to stay on them but if not, just forget about them

Take them anyways... if someone comes into your room (a boyfriend maybe...) and sees that you purposely missed a week of pills he'll think you're trying to fuck his life over

because most guys don't know how 'the pill' works

I recommend you go ahead & take them. They may actually contain something usefull.

I would say take them even though you wouldn't have to it couldn't hurt and it woudl keep you in the routine.

Yeah, I agree, don't attempt messing with the design of the meds, they were designed for a purpose. Perhaps they do contain some chemicals in it which you need, your sources could be wrong. Rather not chance it and keep taking them, and get into the swing of the daily routine.

The green pills are just placebos and you don't have to take them, but its a good idea to be sure you stay on proper schedule.

Ya, you don't need to take them. A lot o pills come in 21-day packs - mine are. You just take them for 3 weeks then miss a week. If you take the green ones then you'll stay on schedule...but I'm sure mostmpeople can maage without placebo pills to remind them. I guess it's lowering to the mass idiocy of people.

yah i have been on ortho trycyclin for about 15 months and the green ones are just sugar and they DO NOT contain anything. they are there just as a reminder, thats all. when i first started them, i took the green ones for the first couple of months and then i just stopped taking them because i remember when i am supposed to take the rest of them. So whoever says that the green ones contain anything they DON'T. Like i said before they are just sugar pills for a reminder. BUT if you have like a hard time remembering when to take them, then keep taking the green ones ( at least until you remember).

Same here; I've been on orthotricyclen for over a year and a half. I used to take the green pills but stopped eventually, there really is no NEED to take them other than to stay in the habit of taking your pill at the same time every day.
I am super-careful about the pill, and I"ve never missed my time by more than an hour.

check the packet and type of pill.

some pills, like Mircette and others actually contain some estrogen in the 4th week pills, others have some proteins in them, and yet some others are purely sugar.

so DON'T skip them unless you KNOW that it's okay - and the best and really the only person to ask is either the doctor or the pharmacist. never assume that they're just placebos and skip them. occasionally pills are there for a reason!

lol. I was thinking the same thing heaven-ly.

Yeah, check with your doctor or pharmacist before stopping them. I didn't, and it didn't matter, and it likely wo't with you either. Generally, when they say "placebo" the MEAN placebo. but then, there are stupid people, and there might be something in those pills. Ask, and THEN stop taking them. Just remember to keep your calendar so you know when to start up again.

This summer I'm working at a camp where we have to turn in all medications, so that included my orthotri-cyclen. I'd never taken the green ones, either, because I was told they don't really do anything except keep you on your schedule, but then the camp nurse (who's an RN) told me that they actually aren't just sugar pills, they contain iron, which is especially important for females. No, you're not gonna get pregnant if you skip the green pills--they are placebos in the way that they don't contain estrogen--but they do contain other things that are important to your health.

You have to turn in your medications? as a COUNSELOR/WORKER? That's rediculous. That means that whenever you need to take medication, the pill/whatever you have to friggin haul your ass to the nurses' station to get it. The nurses at my old sleepover camp were stupid. They assumed that gurgling salt water would answer anyone and everyone's medical problem. by halfway through the session every in every cabin was doing it.

they have to force you to turn in your pills/meds incase the kids find them. But when i worked as a counselor thought i just always kept aspirin in my cabin, the hell with them.

anyway, the question is, why not take them? it's not like it's a big inconvenience

why risk your schedule and not take them? IMO, taking them is the best way ever of making sure you take it everyday at the same time.
