(yes, I made up that word)

So I get a message when I get home this afternoon. From our unit coordinator. "There's a bribe if you want to pick up extra hours" okay... so I call the charge nurse. How much is this bribe? It's time and a half OR a $10/hour bonus. "Sorry... not enough". even though I'll be making overtime. When I picked up a shift on tuesday, I got time and a half PLUS a bonus to come in. And to work a FIFTH shift this week? I'll need the same. I'm tired enough that they're going to need to pay me big time.

So I get a call a few minutes later that I didn't pick up. I check the message, it's from my unit director. She 'doesn't understand why I said that it's not enough money" (fuck you. it's not enough because i SAY it's not enough) "and since I'll already be making over time I should take the bonus." (which shows her stupidity. the extra half-pay is more than $10. and I would get both it and overtime if I chose to work. It's bothers me that they EVER offer "time and a half or a bonus" since all nurses make over $20/hour, and time and a half will always be more. the bonus is just lip-service to make it SOUND like they're offering something good) finally she says "And since it would be nice if I worked collaboratively with the team...." and I hung up there. I erased the message. I don't want to hear the rest of her teamwork bullshit. I DO work well on the team. I already came in for one extra shift this week. coming in again tonight would make it FIVE shifts this week. 60 hours. I've done that before and it's fucking HARD. And really not worth it to me unless I'm going to get paid well. Last time I worked 60 hour weeks I got really sick. Nevermind that I currently have a bum foot and I'm not willing to stand on it for 12 hours for less than stellar pay.

anyway... I really needed to rant. This manager SERIOUSLY pisses me off. And if any of you remember my last rant about work, it makes me wonder if I'm going to get written up and suspended for a day because I "don't work collaboratively."

excuse me... I need some ice cream.

heh, I don't think there's anything I hate more than the word "team" in a business setting.

I talked to this guy once about nursing...he was a business man of sorts, and I was 19 years old with a shitty job because that's all a 19 year old can get. He told me I should become a nurse because it is easy and it pays very well. I didn't believe him then, and I definitely don't believe him now. Does not sound very easy to me...in fact, it sounds pretty damn hard.

There is no "I" in TEAM.

......there is a "me", however, if you screw with the letters a little bit.

-My favorite Dr House quote.

Yeah this is a common thing in Nursing. You're lucky they offer the extra pay. Last couple of places I've worked, they ask you to work overtime (JUST overtime. Nothing extra) and a few weeks later they bitch that you are making so much.

You can't win. Get used to it.

I hate it when you refuse to be somebodys bitch, and stand your ground they then try and guilt you into doing what they want by playing the "Teamwork" Card.

My old boss use to do that all the time, like everytime I needed a sick day, or when I would take a lunch break, or not stay until 7 doing work that he just didnt want to do, "I wasnt being a team player"

Anyway, Hes not my boss anymore, I told him he could go fuck himself, and found a job doing the exact same thing, at a company thats way better, and only 4 miles from my house, for $37,000 more a year.
