Whenever eating chicken, I usually crush the bones with my teeth to get to the marrow. I just love that marrow.

Is this weird or unusual?

I've done it enough times that I don't get injured anymore. I have strong teeth. That or chickens have weak bones. Probably a bit of both.

Sucking marrow isn't unheard of but it is not something that you hear about in some Western setting. I see no problem with it and supposedly it is good for you.

And chickens do have very weak bones, as do all birds.

One of my friends used to do this. Personally it grossed me out but it's not an unheard of thing, like water nymph said. Some of my family members do it with beef bones and such :)

Usually, people get rid of the cartilage at the ends of the bone and just suck it out, without having to chew through the bones too much :)

I don't do it in a public setting. As in, if I'm having chicken at home, everything that gets composted is already crushed because I go through all them.

Well good for you then, finding a sustainable way to dispose of your chicken bones! Yaaaaaaay composting!

My father is Puerto Rican and does the whole marrow thing. He also loves to eat chicken hearts, so no, you're not that odd. I used to do the marrow thing when I was little, but have gotten really picky about what I eat as I've gotten older.

My grandmother did this all the time. She said it was where the flavor REALLY was.

Go for it (just be nice to visitors...the sucking noises she made when we would eat "neckbones and rice" was just NASTY!)

It's very unusual.

But that doesn't really matter, now does it?

I'm pretty sure my dad does it. At least, I remember he did with fish once when I was younger? (Kept me from eating fish for like 5 years!)

I was a vegetarian for 8 years, and just started eating meat like 1.5 years ago - the whole "bones in meat" still grosses me out so I can't say I've ever, or will ever, try it.

don't worry Prism, I don't do wings very well either!

I've done it enough times that I don't get injured anymore. I have strong teeth.

Or... Marrow is good for your teeth!

I don't really believe in saving the world. I'm actually of the belief that the only way to really save the environment would be to commit genocide. I just really like happy plants and I don't have a steady source of horseshit - unless I tune in to CNN.

A tad pessimistic for my liking but in a reductionist way it does make sense. I happen to be of the opposite opinion, that we can take steps to live in a more sustainable world (like composting) but the realist in me says that we may not do enough in enough time.
