Okay, everyone. On Friday I went to the doctor (the fun kind where they do that cool pelvic exam and make you wear neat PINK clothes!) Anyway, she put me on Orthotricyclen and told me to start taking them the Sunday after my period starts. So, how is this stuff? Tips, any problems with it?
Also, she told me it takes a full month to kick in so I can't get pregnant. I was like :o, because my boyfriend and I wanted to seriously do it on our anniverssary on March 17th (or 18th, since I think that's a Saturday). But if it's not going to have any effect then no. She said if we wanted to we could just wear a condom because that's the only protection we'll have, which is real encouraging.
Also, I'm 17 and never been on the pill, not taking any meds. Also, they do test for pregnancy before giving you the stuff, right? Especially if you list yourself as sexually active?

Well ask what they tested you for, probably for pregnancy.
I take orthotricylen, its fine for me, no problems. I gained 4, maybe 5 lbs but on the plus side, my boobs grew a little and my skin looks great.
Use a condom if you want sex, hey, they work.
After a month you're protected, I relied soley on the pill with my ex and it was fine.

ah the Pill... *remembers fondly of the days when she had no acne* The shot's wonderful... but there was nothing like the pill for cycle regulation and acne removal..

I can kind of sympathize with you. I just switched to Ortho-Tricyclen *looks at pills* 2 weeks ago and my 1 year anniversary was Saturday. My boyfriend was kind of sad at first thinking about no sex on a special day, but he got over it, it was beyond his control. But we still ended up having lots of sex, due to his parents unexpectedly not being home Saturday. [Thank goodness for condoms.] Just give each other lots of oral. That'd be my solution. Or have sneaky sex.
But anyway, as for how it is... So far, no irregular bleeding, unlike my last pills... And my skin is getting clearer. Yay! Then again, I'm no expert, I just started those dark blue pills.
And, if you took a urine sample, they took a test for pregnancy. Or if you took a blood test, it's possible they used that to check for pregnancy as well.

the urine sample is also to test the blood-sugar. if there's sugar in your blood, it's bad. I have to get one every three months when I get my shot. It was today actually... argh! the stupid nurse was a fill in for the day. She didn't know where ANY of the equipment was, had me fill out sheets I've filled out before, took FOREVER... etc. I was there for an hour, and it usually takes 15 minutes.

before I got on the pill I would have sex using only condoms. As long as you use them correctly you should be fine.

"the urine sample is also to test the blood-sugar."
yeah, she told me that (i ask a lot of questions, but i was nervous and forgot some). but i assumed they tested for pregnancy too, because i wanted to go on the pill which was the whole reason i went.
