The other day I was thinking about all the ways there are out there to prevent pregnancy, and how there's only one way to stop STD's and that's with a condom. That kinda stinks. So then I got to thinking, does spermicide kills STD's? My first thought was, No, spermicide kills sperm, and I don't *think* STD's are in sperm, cuz otherwise women wouldn't get STD's. But I really don't know. Does anyone else?

Spermicide does not kill STDs. It mainly contains nonoxynol-9, which has no effect on STDs. STDs are transmitted by body fluids, not sperm. So no, spermicide will not protect you against STDs. The only way to protect against STDs is by using a condom.

Nope, unfortunately spermicide only kills sperm. STD's can be found in bodily fluids (obviously), i.e. semen, blood, vaginal secretions, etc. So, I think it is safe to say that if you came in contact with the sperm, which is found in the semen, you came into contact with the STD...

I hope I answered the question :-?

Actually you’re all wrong with the exception WOLF. Spermicidal lube does not kill sperm; it weakens it and slows it down (makes them lazy swimmers). You can purchase spermicidal lube or suppositories that will kill it, but the nonoxynol-9
in condoms is more of an extra feature that mainly makes people feel good. IT doesn’t do as much as most people think, but I still get the condoms with it, so I can get every benefit from what I am using. And in my case it is just condoms, so I like to be as careful as I can.

When posting a link for a new post about lube's I came across this lube that does say it can...read below---->

Nonoxynol-9 is a mild chemical detergent that kills sperm and has been found to also kill some STD causing organisms. Some experts believe nonoxynol-9 may kill the AIDS virus. How ever some men and woman have a sensitivity or allergic reaction to nonoxynol-9 that may irritate the delicate tissues of the vagina or the male urethra. If irritation occurs, you should discontinue use (www.sextoys.com)

yeah I've heard before that there are certain STD's that it does have an effect on... I'm not sure where I heard that though.

OK so the answer is still pretty much no, but I found this...

"Spermicide only offers limited risk reduction against certain sexually transmitted infections, including chlamydia and gonorrhea. Latex or female condoms can further reduce the risk of these and other infections."

I have a hard time believing this one. if it's killing off bacteria that cause other STDs, then there's a antibacterial agent in there. Antibacterias do NOTHING against viruses such as HIV/AIDS.

Some experts believe nonoxynol-9 may kill the AIDS virus.

Actually a possible (and probable) inflammatory state of mucosae caused by Nonoxynol-9 increases the risk of HIV infections...
